I'm researcher in acoustics, member of the team "Lutheries-Acoustic-Music" (LAM) of the Institute Jean le Rond ∂'Alembert of Sorbonne University and affiliated to Inria Paris. My speciality is the musical acoustics and more specificaly, the study of wind instruments.
I try to link the manufacture of an instrument (e.g. its geometry) and the sound produced when it is played by a musician. To do that I use acoustics models and their numerical transcription.
The developpment of numerical tools to support instrument manufactur is one possible application of my research.
Bellow, a list of topics on which I worked (more details and illustrations in french in section research):
- the control of the attack transients of flute-like instruments during my Ph.D.
- the control of the pressure inside the bag of the bagpipe
- modeling the acoustic wave propagation inside the body of the instruments
- the automatic design of woodwind instruments by using optimization algorithms
- the comparison of french and german bassons
A part of my current activity is dedicated to the development of the free open software Openwind, a python library which computing the acoustic properties of wind instruments.
In addition of academic collaboration, I work regularly with manufacturers (e.g.: Buffet Crampon or Humeau Factory).
